Blackboys CE School celebrated the unveiling of their fantastic ‘new look’ website by launching 103 helium balloons into the Wealden skies on Friday 21st September 2012, at 3.00pm.
Each child at the school was armed with a forest green helium balloon (the schools characteristic colour) of which each had a label attached. On the label the new website address was printed along with a specific code number, relating to the child who let it off. It was hoped that when the balloon landed, kind finders would email the school with the unique code number.
Fortunately the weather was ideal for balloon release, dry but windy. All pupils gathered in the school playing field, watched by invited parents and governors, all of which joined in the countdown from 10 to 1, on the shout of 1, all 103 balloons were released, heading in a south easterly direction.
So far the school has been notified of various findings from the south coast area, but most impressively, so far, balloon number 92 was found in Torhout, Belgium (near Bruges) on Saturday 22nd September. Also, nearly one month later, balloon number 45 was found at Dungeness. Finally, the card from Balloon 14 was found on the beach on Texel, Westerslag on Saturday 2nd March 2013!
The furthest travelled balloon owner will win a unique website design session with Mr Huggett, the schools ICT technician and new website webmaster.
