School Curriculum

Accelerated Learning
The Accelerated Learning Approach has been adopted by the school as a way of maxmising pupils learning potential and as a means of supporting every pupils needs. The school has a policy of deliberately promoting a strong sense of belonging.
We constantly anaylse how individual pupils learn, whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners. Each academic year begins with a whole school PSHE topic 'Marvellous Magical Me 'This topic involves alot of planned opportunities for pupils to develop a strong sense of belonging and create situations where they can interact with their peers and discover their learning strengths . Pupils are taught to evaluate their work and know how to work with a learning buddy. All pupils self evaluate their own work . Teachers are very skilled in delivering a curriculum which is exciting and interactive.

Core subjects
Literacy: Children are taught reading, writing, handwriting, speaking and listening and follow national Curriculum guidelines. These skills are taught through a cross-curricular method.

Maths is taught using the new numeracy strategy The topics covered include numberwork, calculations, problems and shape and space. Maths one of the strengths of our school and we were awarded an “outstanding” grade in a recent subject inspection from Ofsted.

Science is taught through practical activities and experiments, which develop scientific thinking skills and knowledge. Once again, we follow National Curriculum guidelines.

We aim to teach as much as possible using a cross-curricular system of themes or topics. However coverage of each subjects is generally as follows: Foundation subjects:
ICT

ICT skills are taught both as a subject in themselves, but also as a way to support learning in all other subjects. The school is on broad band and every classroom is fitted with an interactive whiteboard. All classrooms have at least two computers and we have a small ICT suite; we also have 2 laptop cupboards of 8 computers each which are used to support learning across the curriculum.
Design and Technology
We teach a variety of skills which become progressively more challenging as the children move up the school. They work on a variety of projects generally related to the topic that they are studying.
Art
All children have their own sketch book to record their ideas. They work with a variety of media  for example clay, Ink,  paint and pastels. We follow the skills guidance from the National
Curriculum
PE

Children develop skills in all areas of PE: games, athletics, dance and gymnastics. KS2 children swim at Ringmer pool during the spring and summer term A residential trip is organised for upper key stage two pupils.
