The past twelve months or so have been an extremely challenging time for many and no more so than for our children and the wider school community. Events such as the Christmas and Summer fairs were sorely missed but as we enter the final stages of lockdown, the time for fun, frolics and meeting in larger groups is now within our reach. It is a time for optimism and as such we hope to be able to stage our annual Summer Fair on Saturday 3rd July. We will endeavour to keep you updated on the likelihood of this taking place and if you are able to offer some support, I would wholeheartedly encourage you to come forward.
This last point brings me onto the announcement that after almost five years at the helm I will finally be stepping down from the PTA this Summer. The role of Chair and other positions will therefore need to be filled, so I urge and encourage as many of you as possible to come forward and take an already very healthy PTA into the future. Remember, that without a PTA we run the risk of costs going up and activities such as the much-loved Forest School and future school trips being curtailed.
I would like to thank all those that have helped and assisted me along the way, including the staff at Blackboys School who, without their amazing support, we would simply not have achieved the successes we have had along the way.
And finally, before I sign off, please don’t forget to bring in your unwanted child and adult clothing on Monday 17th May! You can bring in as many bin bags as you can muster and remember, the heavier the load the more money we will make for the school so don’t hold back!!!
Blackboys CE School PTA Fundraising with Easyfundraising
Do you shop online from companies like Amazon, eBay, John Lewis and Tesco? easyfundraising turns your everyday online shopping into free donations for your favourite cause. Just start your online shopping first at easyfundraising, then shop as normal. Retailers will then make a small donation to say “thank you”. To make it even easier to use, you can set up a donation reminder so that if a website you use is affiliated to easyfundraising, you'll automatically be asked if you want to go through the site.
There are 3,449 retailers to choose from.
With the end of yet another school year looming we will soon be saying a fond farewell to both Mrs King and Miss Stevens. As previously stated they have both been great servants to Blackboys School and as such will be sorely missed. In order to give them a proper send-off we start off with Mrs King’s tea party booked in for 2:30pm on Friday 14th July. The children have already planned some exciting entertainment so we encourage as many of you to attend as possible. Could I also please ask for you to dust off the old oven gloves and start baking some cupcakes in the class house colours as these will be consumed during the ‘live performance’.
The second event is the school cup assembly on the 20th July. Miss Stevens has of course been an integral part in so many aspects of Blackboys School, not least as much in our children’s physical education and regularly organising the ever popular sports day. The assembly will be our opportunity to thank her again before she moves on to her new school. We do of course wish her and Mrs King all the very best in future pursuits!!!
Before I sign off for the summer I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone again for their hard work in assisting with the Summer Fayre. It was an extremely hot day but everyone had a fab time and I’m pleased to announce that we successfully managed to raise just over £1,300. As most of you already know the government continues to squeeze the budget concerning our children’s education. This means that we at PTA will be doing all we can next year to support Blackboys School in places where finances will inevitably fall short. This means bigger and better events but in order to achieve this we need your help. Therefore, if you wish to become a part of the PTA or merely support it through ideas and proposals then by all means drop either Jemma or I an email at email@example.com. Don’t forget that our new term PTA meeting is being held on Wednesday 20th September at 7:45pm. Venue TBC.
Thanks again for all your support.
With spring now firmly upon us it’s busy as ever for our hard working PTA! First on the agenda is the inaugural Framfield & Blackboys School Stoolball competition which is set to take place on Saturday 13th May. This will be the first time we’ve organised such an event with our friends over at Framfield School and we hope that this will become an annual event. The competition will begin at 2pm on Framfield Recreation Field and will involve the four colour houses from the two schools enabling the children and parents alike to mix and socialise. On site will be a BBQ and drinks tent so let’s hope the sun comes out to make this a truly memorable occasion. Children are encouraged to book their place asap and a sign-up sheet will be made available in the Blackboys School office.
Moving towards the summer and it’s the big one, our annual Summer Fair. This is taking place on Saturday 17th June between 1pm and 3pm. There will be lots of stalls, games, a raffle, BBQ and much much more so please come along and support your school.
Finally, I would just like to say a big thank you to all those who attended and assisted with the quiz night back in March. A special thank you goes out to Mrs Withers for cooking up such a tasty curry and to Mr & Mrs Lynch for hosting. As always this was a fantastic night with the male teachers coming out victorious!!! We managed to raise an amazing £550 which will of course go towards future school projects.
As previously mentioned Mrs King will be leaving us at the end of the year but as most of you now know so will Miss Stevens who will be taking up a new teaching post closer to home. Both have been great servants to Blackboys School and as such will be sorely missed. Please keep Friday 14th & 20th July firmly pencilled into your diary as we look to give both a fond fairwell.
Thanks again for all your support.
I trust you all had a great Christmas and New Year but with another school term in full swing it’s time to make you all aware of some exciting upcoming PTA events!
First on the agenda is the school’s annual quiz night. As usual this will be held direct at the school and the date to save is Friday 17th March. Doors will open at 7pm with the quiz itself beginning promptly at 7:30pm. If you’re keen to take part in this much loved event then please book your place/table with Mrs Sheffield via the school office. Prices are £10 per person or £75 if you’re able to get a table of eight (8)! These prices include your entry fee and a very tasty curry as prepared by our very own loveable school chef!!!! Wine will also be available to purchase on the night. Please book early as this event is likely to sell out fast!
Arrangements for the school’s Summer Fair are still in their infancy but early indications suggest a Saturday in mid June so keep your ears open for more details when they arise.
Most of you will already be aware that Mrs King will be leaving us at the end of the year. She has been a great servant to both Blackboys and Framfield schools and as such will be sorely missed. On behalf of Blackboys PTA I wish her all the very best but in order to say thank you in true Blackboys fashion we will be looking to hold an additional summer event. Details will again be provided nearer the time both on the website and via the newsletters.
Thanks again for all your support.
As we approach the end of Term Two our minds begin to focus firmly on Christmas and spending valued time with family and friends, not to mention eating copious amounts of food, drink and of course the giving/sharing of presents!!!!
Christmas is of course a particularly exciting time for the little ones and this was no more obvious than at our annual Christmas Fair where they enjoyed the many games and stalls available, super deluxe BBQ and Santa’s grotto! The event does however require a lot of planning both before and on the day so I would like to take this opportunity to again thank everyone who assisted with this, including the many families who attended and supported the event. We raised a staggering £1,850 which will of course continue to assist Blackboys Primary School with projects going into 2017.
The PTA has itself had a bit of a transition period of late and special thanks also go to Tjadine Ullmann and the school staff for welcoming Jemma and I into the fold. Hopefully we can build on the already excellent service provided by them and help make the school the ‘best it can be’.
Before I sign off and eat another mince pie, can I please make you aware that there will be a PTA meeting in early to mid-January (dates to follow) where further events, including the ever popular quiz night, will be discussed. You are of course all welcome!!!!
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
