The English curriculum at St Thomas a Becket C of E Federation, has been adapted, designed and developed to nurture a lifelong love of literature. It intends to take children beyond their rural surroundings, developing their rich cultural capital and eliminating disadvantage, so that all children are fluent readers, develop a love for books and are able to create purposeful writing for an audience. Through our unique curriculum, we enable children to be ambitious and aspire to look beyond their boundaries.
The challenging and progressive English curriculum provides a coherent, sequenced, progression of learning which allows all children, regardless of starting points, to make good progress in reading and writing. We intend that every pupil is well prepared for the next stage in their learning, and the rest of their lives, with the necessary knowledge, skills, concepts and attitudes they will need to be confident readers and writers in the future.
